Check Your Paver

The paver is the most important thing for an asphalt paving job. In fact, you can't complete the task without it! Inspect the paver, making sure all the parts are clean and in good working condition. Preventative maintenance and regular inspections are key to catching small problems before they happen. If you have an older model, or if you can't remember the last you've had it served, it may be time for an upgrade. If it goes down, the whole project grinds to a halt.

Checklist For Cleaning Your Paver

If you haven't completed thorough cleaning and preventative maintenance in the off-season, make sure that you complete these tasks before ramping up for the busy season.

  • Thoroughly clean the paver, removing all the guards and covers in order to access those hard-to-reach areas

  • Change the hydraulic and cooling systems, flushing the lines to make sure that everything is flowing smoothly

  • Check the conveyor, screed, and machine frame to ensure that all parts are secure. Look at the auger flights and screed; these parts may need to be replaced more often than others

  • Check the augers, drive chains, conveyor drive chains, and conveyors for wear and tear. Make and adjustments as needed to ensure the proper tension is achieved

  • Thoroughly clean all equipment, especially the area around the hopper and engine compartment. Cooking spray can get inside can create a sticky coating which, in turn, makes dust cling and eventually the dirt overload will cause overheating
